Abstract
Whether microbial communities reassemble predictably after disturbance is debated. We tracked soil microbiomes through 18 months of post-fire recovery using shotgun metagenomics.
Community trajectories converged across replicate plots, with nitrogen-cycling taxa recovering first. Deterministic processes dominated early succession, giving way to stochastic drift at later stages.
