Abstract

The tumour microenvironment shapes colorectal cancer progression. We performed quantitative histopathology on 340 resection specimens, scoring immune infiltration, stromal content, and vascular density.

High peritumoural lymphocyte density independently predicted improved disease-free survival, while dense desmoplastic stroma was associated with early recurrence.
