Each year the journal recognises outstanding contributions through its Best Paper Awards. Awards are granted on the basis of scientific quality, originality, and impact, as judged by a committee drawn from the editorial board.

All original research articles published during the calendar year are automatically considered. Winners are announced in the first issue of the following year.
