Author Guidelines

Thank you for considering the Journal of Open Scholarly Publishing for your work. These guidelines explain how to prepare and submit a manuscript. (As this is a demonstration journal, submissions are illustrative only.)

How to submit an article — step by step

  1. Create an account or log in. Use the Register link in the top navigation to create an author account, then sign in.
  2. Start a new submission. From your dashboard, choose New Submission and select the appropriate section (for example, Articles or Tutorials & Guides).
  3. Confirm the submission checklist. Tick each item to confirm your manuscript is ready and meets our requirements.
  4. Upload your files. Upload the main manuscript as an editable file (DOCX, RTF, or ODT) and add any figures, tables, or supplementary data as separate files.
  5. Enter the metadata. Provide the title, abstract, each contributor's name and affiliation, and a set of keywords. Accurate metadata greatly improves discoverability.
  6. Review and finish. Confirm the details and complete the submission. You will receive an email acknowledgement and can track progress from your dashboard.

Manuscript preparation

  • Length & structure: Research articles are typically 3,000–8,000 words with a structured abstract of up to 250 words. Use clear section headings (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion).
  • Formatting: Submit in an editable format, single column, with line numbers and double spacing to assist reviewers. Avoid embedding author identity in the file for double-anonymous review.
  • Figures & tables: Number them in order, provide concise captions, and upload high-resolution versions.
  • References: Use a consistent citation style (APA 7th is preferred) and include DOIs where available.
  • Ethics & data: Declare funding, competing interests, and ethics approvals. Wherever possible, deposit underlying data in an open repository and cite it.

Questions about a submission can be sent to the editorial office using the Contact page.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are asked to confirm that their submission complies with each of the following:

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • The submission file is in an editable document format (DOCX, RTF, or ODT).
  • Where available, URLs and DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced for metadata, uses a 12-point font, and places figures and tables in appropriate locations rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • For double-anonymous review, author-identifying information has been removed from the file and document properties.
